‘Fantastic Beasts’ sequel tops the box office, ‘Sonic 2’ spins to second

The latest film in the Harry Potter universe premiered over the weekend with the latest Fantastic Beasts series. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opened atop the weekend box office with an estimated $43.0 million. The film opened in international markets already and has generated $150 million already. Worldwide the film had taken in $193.4 million.

The video game sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Paramount Pictures dropped to second place at the box office over the weekend. The sophomore Sonic film earned another with an estimated $30.0 million. Including international cumes the worldwide haul for the film sits at $231.8 million.

Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s adventure comedy film The Lost City from Paramount Pictures took in another $6.5 million in its fourth weekend. The film has earned $78.6 million in four weeks.

Rounding out the top five was Everything Everywhere All at Once which jumped from sixth to fourth with another $6.2 million while Sony Pictures’ Father Stu opened in fifth place with $5.7 million.

Next weekend sees the release of the DreamWorks Animation film The Bad Guys. Lionsgate will also release The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent while Focus Features will release the thriller The Northman.
