The highly anticipated video game sequel Sonic the Hedgehog 2 from Paramount Pictures opened at the top of the box office over the weekend. The sophomore Sonic film opened with an estimated $71.0 million. The film opened internationally in several markets last weekend where it also took in another $70 million for a worldwide come of $141 million.
Sony and Marvel’s Spiderverse film Morbius took in $10.2 million in its second weekend. The film has taken in $57.1 million in two weeks of release.
Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum’s adventure comedy film The Lost City from Paramount Pictures took in another $9.2 million in its third weekend. The film has earned $68.8 million in three weeks.
Rounding out the top five was the new release Ambulance from Universal Pictures with $8.7 million while Warner Bros.’ The Batman took in another $6.5 million in its sixth week. The film has generated $359.1 million domestically.
With Easter weekend up next there are a few new releases planned including Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore from Warner Bros. Sony Pictures will also release the drama Father Stu starring Mark Wahlberg.
