Real McCoys win 8th John Ross Robertson Cup

There were some tense moments, but the Dundas Real McCoys prevailed to win its 8th. John Ross Robertson Senior AAA Hockey championship with a 5-4 victory over the Hamilton Steelhawks in the JL Grightmire Arena.

Dundas won the Ontario Hockey Association Senior AAA best-of-three series two games to one with Burlington’s Shane Conacher scoring the winning goal. It has been noted before in a previous game that Conacher is the fifth generation of Canada’s Athlete of First Half Century (1950s) as voted by The Canadian Press, Lionel Pretoria Conacher. Conacher had a goal and an assist tonight.

Dundas held leads of 2-0, 4-2 and 5-4 after three periods in this hard-fought game to win the Robertson Cup. At 1:39 of the second period, Brad Bonello scored a powerplay goal to increase the Dundas lead over the Steelhawks to 3-0. He finished the night with two goals and two assists.

The other McCoys goals went to Dustin Alcock and Ryan Horvat. Jake Goldberg set up two scoring plays.

Hamilton replied with single goals from Stephon Thorne, Sean Bentivoglio, Bryan McGregor, and Reggie Traccitto.
