Environment Canada issues ‘Snowfall Warning’ for the City of Hamilton [ ENDED ]

Environment Canada has issued a ‘Winter Storm Watch’ for the City of Hamilton.

3:56 AM EST Thursday 03 February 2022
Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • City of Hamilton

Locally heavy snow this afternoon into this evening.

This snowfall warning replaces the winter storm warning previously in effect for the Hamilton area.

After a brief break this morning, moderate snow is forecast to redevelop late this morning.

Additional snowfall accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are expected by the time the snow comes to an end tonight.

Snowfall rates up to 2 cm per hour will be possible.

Visibility may be reduced at times due to the heavy snow and local blowing snow, particularly over open areas.

Snow with total accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected by Thursday night.
Snowfall rates may reach up to 2 cm per hour at times.
Reduced visibilities due to snow.

Snow will continue tonight through Thursday.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.

This afternoon through Thursday night. Snow is expected to begin for the Niagara Region this evening.

Rain showers will transition to snow this afternoon and into this evening. Snow is then expected to continue through Thursday. There is still some uncertainty regarding additional snowfall amounts on Thursday.

Discussion:
Rain showers on Tuesday night will transition to snow by Wednesday morning. Visibility may be reduced in heavy snow and local blowing snow. Snow will taper on Friday morning.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.
